Montréal 2025 now a 3-DS model owing to the know-how of a Québec city business
Tuesday, October 11, 2005 ¾ Graph Synergie, a Québec city business, was entrusted by the city of Montréal with a major geomatic, simulation and representation project of the future 2025 city of Montréal, as it can be foreseen nowadays. The “Imagining and Building Montréal 2025” project has already been initiated and Montréal in 2025 can be viewed by way of 20 Flash capsules available on the Ville de Montréal Website.
Graph-iVIEW is the application developed by Graph Synergie with which projects can be viewed ahead of time; this allows for consultations on which city leaders can base their decisions with regard to the future development of the City. This innovative tool is a powerful interactive application; it is a 3-D virtual model in real time that relies on GIS data such as aerial orthophotos of the Montréal territory, the topography of the island and a 3-D built environment just to name a few.
To illustrate the potential and scope of Graph-iVIEW, the following elements were integrated as the many possible layers of information that end-users are able to select: the overall plan of the city of Montréal including the development of the city centre, the mass public transit network and road network, the metro stations and commuter train stations, the development of the cycle track, the riverside cycle path and the village centres, along with living environments to revitalize, ecoterritories, the centre hospitalier universitaire McGill project and so on.
“This tool has phenomenal possibilities”, declared Gérald Tremblay, mayor of Montréal, when revealing the details of the “Imagining and Building Montréal 2025” project a few days ago. Intended for the city technical services, this management tool unique in Canada enables improving planning and facilitates analysing interventions to carry out within the City. Municipal administration can assess more efficiently the impact of development projects submitted to the City as much on the local level, for instance with regard to municipal boroughs, as that of integrated territorial development. Far more than a simple management tool, this application is a promotional and communication tool, and an international showcase of Montréal through which the City will be able to submit a multitude of development possibilities throughout the entire island with the “project” data record and the 3-D model, and provide information in real time for these opportunities.
All in all, Montrealers now have access to a great means for understanding the building and evolution of their society, owing to the entire team of Graph Synergie (www.graphsynergie.com) and its Graph-iVIEW application specially designed for urban development.
